Travel photography
Welcome to the wonderful world of travel photography. This type of photography is mentioned alongside the other well-known photography themes, but actually covers the entire photographic spectrum of subjects.
When you travel, you come across every subject a photographer can encounter through their lens: landscape, architecture, nature, macro, portrait, product, action, underwater, night...

The authors
Marcel Scholing (1964) worked as a photographer for various photo agencies and clients for more than ten years. He is now a photography teacher as well as a freelance photographer. He runs workshops and leads photography trips for SNP Natuurreizen.

Pieter Dhaeze (1959) is a self-employed entrepreneur, photographer and author. He has been publishing in major national photography and computer magazines for years and is the creative force behind the popular 'Bewuster en beter' series of photography books.

The entire photographic spectrum
Welcome to the wonderful world of travel photography. This type of photography is mentioned alongside the other well-known photography themes, but actually covers the entire photographic spectrum of subjects.
When you travel, you come across every subject a photographer can encounter through their lens: landscape, architecture, nature, macro, portrait, product, action, underwater, night...
You need to be good at everything, not just with the experience and knowledge you use in your everyday photography. You may find yourself in extreme situations with exotic models, people, animals and plants.
That can make things a little more difficult, but also more challenging, and the satisfaction of a successful shot is all the greater as a result.
The authors of this book want to inspire you with beautiful photography so that you cannot wait to get out there and capture your view of the world.

Contents
This practically written book consists of the following six chapters:
1. Preparation and travel
2. Equipment
3. Subjects and settings
4. Composition tips
5. Back home
6. Case studies

Chapter 1 is about how to prepare for your trip as well as possible. Who are you travelling with, what about luggage, travel documents, insurance and transport? What do you need to learn about local customs and/or legislation?
All kinds of things you may encounter as a travel photographer are brought to light. They also mention a number of useful websites where you can find more information.
Chapter 2 covers all the equipment you take with you on a trip, including lenses, camera and accessories, and is particularly interesting for beginner photographers. It explains how to clean your camera and how to use filters. It also includes general information about image stabilisation, image quality and various types of lenses.
Chapter 3 is about how to photograph different subjects as well as possible. It explains which settings you can use for this.

Chapter 4 is about composition and especially the art of leaving things out. The fact that rules are not laws is an important eye-opener, and choosing the decisive moment can also have a major influence on the success of your photo. Creating depth, showing human scale and determining the direction of the viewer's gaze are also covered in detail.
Once you are back home, the tips from chapter 5 may come in handy. It contains practical tips for editing your raw files and putting together panoramas. Finally, you get some tips for managing your photo files.
In the final chapter, chapter 6, you will find inspiring travel photos with text and explanations. The settings used are listed with the photos.

What did I think?
The book is interesting for both beginner and more experienced travel photographers. It is richly illustrated with photos from all over the world. You get plenty of general practical photography tips, as well as tips for sharing photos online or creating a video montage.
The book reads very easily because of the variety of subjects. It is also a useful reference book, with useful links to relevant websites.
The writing style is clear, although I am not particularly fond of the formal you, but that is a personal preference, and the photos are beautiful and illustrate the text well. It is a really nice book to give to someone who enjoys taking photos while travelling. And who doesn't know someone like that?

Price and where to order
The book normally costs 29.95 euros at Bol.com, among others.
