It has finally happened. Canon has announced the long-awaited RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM. It is the first in a series of lenses with a Voice Coil Motor for autofocus. A separate aperture ring makes the lens very suitable for both video and photography.

The RF 35mm f/1.4VCM is the first hybrid lens with an aperture ring. This makes it easy to change the aperture, both for photography and video. The 11 aperture blades promise beautiful bokeh.

The RF 35mm f/1.4VCM has minimal focus breathing. Combined with the f/1.4 aperture, this makes it easy for videographers to go from out of focus to in focus without any significant change in the size of the subject.

The Voice Coil Motor is an addition to the existing Nano USM motor, which enables fast focusing. Besides the aperture ring, the lens also has a programmable control ring and a lens button.

The Canon RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM lens is expected to become available at the end of June for 1,929.99 euros.

Alongside this lens, Canon is also introducing the Speedlite EL-10, a compact flash with a charging time of just 1.5 seconds. The flash is available for 309 euros.
