It has finally happened. After plenty of rumours, Canon has announced its first two APS-C mirrorless cameras in the EOS R series. They are the EOS R7 and EOS R10. Two matching RF-S lenses have also been announced alongside the cameras.
The new EOS R7 and EOS R10 are very versatile cameras with a compact size thanks to the APS-C sensor. They do, however, feature the modern AF technology also found in the more advanced EOS R models.
Subjects such as animals, people and vehicles are recognised, and accurate head, face and eye detection is available across 100% of the frame.
Thanks to the sensitivity of the autofocus, you can focus down to -4EV and -5EV. The AF system also works with an aperture of f/22, allowing you to use, for example, an RF800mm with a 2x teleconverter while retaining autofocus.
The EOS R7 has a new combined AF multi-controller control wheel, allowing AF point selection and focusing to be done with a single thumb movement.
These new EOS models can shoot at up to 15 frames per second with the mechanical shutter, and up to 30 frames per second with the electronic shutter (EOS R7).
You get IBIS, and when auto level is enabled, the system is also used to level the horizon.
Video creators have not been forgotten. You get 4K 60p or 4K 30p, downsampled from 7K and 6K. C-Log is available, and HDR PQ 4:2:2 10-bit recording is possible.
The EOS R7 has a 32.5-megapixel sensor and the EOS R10 has a 24.2-megapixel sensor. Weighing 612 grams and 429 grams respectively, including battery and memory card, they are compact and especially lightweight cameras.
Alongside the two cameras, Canon has announced two RF-S lenses. The RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM and the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM.
