Nikon has announced a new mirrorless camera. This is the Nikon Z 9, a mirrorless flagship for professional users. The Nikon Z 9 is expected to be released later this year.

This announcement concerns the development of the Nikon Z 9. In other words, the camera is not available yet. Nikon does expect this camera to see the light of day later this year.

In the words of the camera brand, it represents a major step forward in technology and performance.

At present, it is not entirely clear what the specifications of this camera will be. The Z 9 is expected to resemble the Nikon D6. The camera's appearance may still differ from the image Nikon has shared of the Z 9.

The Z 9 will contain a stacked CMOS FX sensor, with a new image-processing engine. There will be support for 8K video, alongside a range of other video specifications. Nikon promises an unparalleled experience in terms of performance and ease of use.

The resolution this camera will have, or the number of images per second it can capture, is not yet known. There are already many rumours about possible specifications on the internet, ranging from plausible to unlikely.

No doubt more official information about this new professional camera will be released over the coming months.

I am a satisfied Z6 photographer myself, but the fact is that Nikon does not amount to much in the new mirrorless camera market, according to research by Petapixel. Nikon has a market share of only 7.5 percent, compared to 35 and 30 percent for Sony and Canon. That things are far from going well with Nikon is clear from this story.
