Sony has announced a new compact zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. The range runs from 24mm to 50mm with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout. It is 9.2 centimetres long and weighs just 440 grams.
The lens covers the most popular focal lengths for everyday use. It has 11 aperture blades for a pleasing circular aperture. It is quiet and the autofocus is fast enough to keep up with the 120 frames per second of the Sony A9 III.

The aperture ring can be de-clicked for video. There is a programmable button and the lens is splash-proof. Although not 100 per cent, Sony says.
The lens will be available from March 2024 at a recommended retail price of 1,299 euros.
