Now that we have celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, pretty much everyone has ‘moon fever’.

Now is really the time to grab your camera and head outside to photograph our moon, and this excellent video shows you everything you need to know to make it happen.

This entertaining video comes from Karl Taylor and shows you everything you need to know about how to take a fantastic photo of the moon.

Although astrophotography is a notoriously difficult genre, the moon is an exception. Given both this and its beauty, it is a wonderful subject for beginners and advanced photographers alike.

Also, unlike other types of astrophotography, you do not need specialised equipment or huge amounts of time and post-processing to create high-quality images. All you need is your camera, a telephoto lens and a decent tripod.

Although Taylor uses an external shutter release (remote control) for this shot, there is no problem if you do not have one. Instead, use the self-timer and mirror lock-up if you are shooting with a DSLR, so you can minimise vibrations.

Watch the video above for the full ins and outs!
