During last week's Sony Kando trip, photographer and YouTuber Taylor Jackson met some of the most recognisable faces in the world of photography. Luckily for us, he took the time to ask each of them for their number 1 tip for beginner photographers.
The resulting video is 15 minutes of wise advice from YouTube superstars including iJustine, top wedding photographers such as Scott Robert Lim and famous photojournalist David Burnett, and of course many others.
The tips range from ultra-basic (always charge your batteries before a shoot), to more esoteric (build your work around the things you like), to practical (pay attention to your backgrounds). They all have something to offer. However, David Burnett's tip, born from 50 years of experience, really stands out:
Whatever work you do and whichever part of the photography industry you work in, always take photos of your own life. Take photos of your friends, your family, if necessary until you reach the point of irritation. In 30 or 40 years (if you are lucky enough to still be walking this earth..) you will find that photos of your life are more important than anything you have ever owned.
Watch the full video above and let us know your number 1 tip for beginner photographers. Has the video covered pretty much everything, or do you have some wise advice of your own to share?
